About the artist
GL Wallace
I am a fine artist based in Middle Tennessee, just outside Nashville. Every piece I create begins as a freehand drawing, done entirely by eye without any trace assistance or projections.
Whenever possible, I work directly from life. I only turn to photography when my subjects cannot be present, or when they refuse to stay still, such as my chickens, cats, and dogs.
Rather than imitating photographs, I strive for a painterly expression that feels alive. True art leaves room for visual interpretation, functioning more like poetry than a literal transcript. Capturing a subject through simplified, expressive marks is immensely more difficult than producing a slavish copy, but that open space for the viewer’s imagination is where true connection happens.
After a career in technical IT corporate management, holding a B.A. and an M.S. from B.U., moving to Tennessee marked a permanent shift toward the easel. My endeavor today is simply to create honest, beautiful works of art to share with friends, family, and collectors.
